FROM THE PASTOR'S PORCH

FROM THE PASTOR’S PORCH:

Here a while back, my neighbor picked me up at my house and we went to town and ran a few errands; I don’t remember now what we did. Went to the feed store or something like that. Anyway, we wound up back at his house and his wife offered me a glass of lemonade that I proceeded to guzzle down with the gusto of a thirsty five year old. You know, how a five year old does after playing outside in the summertime; drink until you run out of breath and pant in-between drinks!!! Then she filled up my glass again. It reminded me of a custom in the Middle East.
You know, much of the Middle East is desert, and even back in the time of King David, friends and even strangers had a custom of helping one another in the desert. Water and wine were precious commodities, so when a stranger offered you a cup of either, that meant that he liked you and wanted you to stay awhile in his camp. If you drank the cup and the stranger filled it up again, that meant that you were welcome to stay a little longer. If you drank that cup and the stranger did not fill it back up that meant it was time for you to go. BUT, if the stranger filled your cup up until it overflowed, that meant that the stranger had taken a serious liking to you and he wanted you to stay a long time.
Most of us think of our cup overflowing meaning that we are blessed and have more than enough. That’s true, but when King David wrote about his cup running over in Psalm 23, what he is telling us here is that God thinks we are special and he wants us to stay a long time with him. In fact, God wants you to spend eternity with Him. King David goes on to accept that offer when he finished Psalm 23 with “I will dwell in the House of the Lord forever”. Notice that King David said, “I WILL….not maybe, or I might. He knows where his future is and he has made a decision!!!
My prayer for you today is that you will know your cup is running over and that Jesus thinks your special. He Loves you and wants you to spend eternity with him. I pray that you will do what the Bible says to do to assure that YOU will dwell in the House of the Lord forever. Heaven is waiting for you!!!
ROMANS 6:23 tells us that the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord, and John 1:12,13 tells us that ALL who receive him, ALL who believe in the name of Jesus, He will give the right to be children of God. Not born of natural descent, not human decision, or a husband’s will, but BORN OF GOD!!!
Ten thousand years from now, I’m gonna be sippin’ lemonade in Heaven with old King David. I sure hope that you will be my neighbor!!! There is only one other place you could be ten thousand years from now, and I assure you there ain’t no ice cold lemonade there.

Have a Blessed Day,
Pastor Lynn
